You might or might not know this but retinol (Vitamin A) is a highly effective cosmetic ingredient with undeniable benefits. Its efficacy has been demonstrated by many experimental and clinical trials. It addresses major skincare issues such as wrinkles, UV damage and even acne. The problem with retinol is that it can cause irritation, skin sensitisation, redness and increased skin sensitivity to sunlight (that’s why it cannot be applied during the day). If used incorrectly, it can cause scaling, dryness and itching.
Bakuchiol, from the seeds of the Psoralea corylifolia – or Babchi seeds – has been used in Asia for more than 100 years to treat skin conditions so it’s not new but new research has now put it in the spotlight as the first plant-based alternative to retinol, with amazing comparable results. The huge difference is that bakuchiol does not cause irritation, burning, stinging or tingling and can be applied both during the day and at night.
The Bakuchiol we use at Whitfords is a concentrated active ingredient, not to be confused with the whole oil which is also available on the market as bakuchi (or babchi) oil.
You can find this amazing ingredient in our Papaya & Bakuchiol Gel Serum.
